2 months!

So, I have officially decided to only do monthly updates on the Hunt-man, because I get so busy that weekly updates are getting away from me! These past two weeks Hunter and I have been on vacation, so we have been just going, going, going! This update and picture is a week overdue, so he is actually two months and one week, but that's ok.

As for Hunter.... he is doing AMAZING!
I don't know why it wouldn't let me take the red eyes out :(
Sleep- he is consistently sleeping the first stretch 6-7 hours... even on vacation! Now that I am seeing his sleep cues, I am able to get him down for lots of naps, ranging from 45 minutes to 2 hours per day. Sometimes, we will get a 3 hour nap in during the day, but that is not the norm! The first few days on vacation were hard for him sleep-wise, but I can't blame him! He was in a new house, filled with about 20 people running around, AND it stayed bright light until about 9:45-10:00 at night. Who wants to sleep when it looks like playtime?

Car Seat- This is still an issue, which was kind of terrible on vacation since we were going non stop! We would spend whole days out of the house going from store to store, we even drove a six hour trip! He pretty much needs to be full, clean, and dry when he gets put in the car seat, swung or kind of shaken/bounced on the way out to the car, and then get to driving pretty much the second he gets clipped in. This will mean that he can ride happily for a while, and then he may fall asleep or get bored/hungry and start to cry. I mean scream. This is a work in progress that I hope can get better before the 10 hour drive to Florida in August!

Eating- He is nursing so well! One day when we were out and about, I forgot his pre-pumped bottles and had to nurse him during the day, sometimes in public (with a cover, of course!), and he did wonderful! When he does drink from a bottle he eats 4 ounces. He has been at 4 ounces for a while, so I fill it to about 4.5 or sometimes 5 ounces, but he doesn't usually finish it or he does and then he starts to spit up and I know he ate too much.

Alertness/Awake Time- He is SO alert! We get comments on it pretty much everyday about how alert he is, how pretty his eyes are, and how well he holds up his head. This is probably because he likes to be held on your shoulder, which kind of draws attention when you are pushing a stroller or shopping cart and holding him like that. Also, he still looks pretty small to be holding his head up so well in that position, which means we are constantly getting stopped and asked how old he is.
This is how he likes to be held all day, lol!
Tummy Time- This is NOT going so well. He hates it! I got a good idea from my cousin, and she said her doctor told her to try to do it after every diaper change, so he will get in at least a tiny bit here and there all day. Definitely going to try that and will hopefully have a better report on this next month!

Play Time- He is getting so darn social! He loves to smile, and some mornings he wakes up so happy that I swear he does a laugh as I unswaddle him! He likes to smile at high pitched sounds, and can sometimes be tickled just a little bit.

At his two week appointment, which actually took place at 7 weeks, he got his vaccines which literally BROKE. MY. HEART. He had to have one oral vaccine, and that was okay. Then he had to have three shots in his tiny little legs. I couldn't watch, and I am so thankful that Tim went with us. He was as sad about it as I was, but was able to help calm him down. He didn't feel very well for about 2-3 days after, and needed Tylenol to keep his mild fever down. That afternoon, though, he would just kind of seem in pain. His little legs hurt him, and he was telling me by stopping eating and just whimpering. I felt so bad. I had moved the appointment up so that he could have his vaccines before getting on the airplane, and even though it was only a few days early, I felt very guilty and like a bad mommy.

His appointment also gave us new measurements, and we all know how much I like updated measurements! He weighed 10 pounds and 11 ounces; and is 23 inches long. He is in the 25th percentile for height, 25th for weight, and 35th for head circumference. I feel like he is big because of how rapidly he is growing! Two inches longer in just two months?! I know he must be on the smaller side because of his percentiles, but many people comment on how he looks long and lean, so I am curious to see how the next appointment goes!
Here are some of his silly faces from our mini photo shoot:

Things I Miss From Pre-Motherhood Days...

When I was pregnant, I had an ever-growing list of things that I miss about being not pregnant. Now that I am past that stage, I have an ever growing list of things that are just not the same now that I am a mother. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't go back to my pre-motherhood days if you paid me... but everything is different! I KNEW it would be different, but I didn't realize how even the smallest things have changed.
  • Running to the store.... or anywhere. Before having Hunter in tow, I could run up to the store, pop into the yogurt shop and grab a cup of my favorite frozen treat, take a sporadic nap, meet Tim for dinner.... you name it. I could get up and go. Now, I have to time things just right with Hunter's sleeping and eating habits, make sure I have a change of clothes, diaper change goodies, pre-pumped milk (I am terrible at breast feeding on the go...), burp rags, etc. I like to make sure the car has run for a few minutes, because in this terrible Texas heat, my car would be 1000 degrees if we were to just jump in and try to go.
  • The Pop-In: I mentioned above that I can't just pop in to the frozen yogurt shop. Really, you can't just pop in anywhere! You have to unload the baby, find a cart to put the car seat in, and hope that he is happy all the while. That being the case, you pretty much need to make sure that you really NEED to go up to Target. Just to buy that mascara? No thanks. I can go without until my Target shopping list is a little longer!
  • Being on time. I am either late or early, depending on how much running around the house I had to do prior to getting him in the car. Did he all of a sudden act starving right before I left the house? Then that means I either need to heat a bottle of precious pre-pumped milk, or just nurse him. That means at least 30 minutes until I can actually leave the house. Just today, I was 45 minutes early to lunch. He had just eaten and fallen asleep so rather than put him down somewhere to transport him to the car seat later, I strapped him in right then. That woke him up a little so we had to get into the car to lull him back to sleep before he fully woke up. If I would have waited, he would have screamed then not fallen back to sleep. Would I rather get to a place super early, or on time with a fussy baby? Yes, that meant if you saw a black Murano driving circles around the block or parking lot  trying to run over as many bumpy street reflectors as I could just so that I didn't walk in 45 minutes early... that was probably me.
  • Sleep. People say, "Stock up on sleep before the baby comes!".... but, you can't really do that. I think what they mean is, "Enjoy sleeping while you can do it whenever you want". I have slept less that 6 hours each night since he has been home, and those hours are certainly not consecutive. What was that? Take a nap? Sure, just as long as Hunter is asleep as well. Then you look around the house and see laundry and cleaning that needs to be done and you have to make that decision. The other day, I got him to sleep, pumped, loaded one load of laundry, set another load on 'dewrinkle' for the 5th time that week, then laid down in bed. Five minutes later, he was awake.
  • Wearing what I want. Now I have to make sure that it is nursing friendly. Can I take down one side at a time easily or will I have to yank the whole thing over my head and sit in my living room feeding him with just a bra on?
  • Eating what I want. I thought pregnancy limited your options. That was nothing compared to being a nursing momma. Chocolate, citrus foods, spicy foods, dairy, soy, broccoli and onions (yuck), the list goes on and on for foods that will upset baby's tummy.
I am sure there are many more, but I feel like I am painting that terrible picture of motherhood. It is NOT all bad stuff and sitting around missing your old life. There are so many things that are amazing and wonderful about motherhood. Sometimes, while I am looking at him I almost cry. He is just so perfect.... and I grew him. One night started a while chain of events in my belly, and 10 months later I have a fully functioning baby who is right on track with life. His eyes are gorgeous. I can see some of my family traits in him as well as some features of his daddy. He looks up at me while eating and I can just tell he loves me and needs me. And 10 months ago he didn't even exist. You know the song by George Strait, I Saw God Today? I know EXACTLY what he is singing about now. There is not one long nap, yogurt shop pop in, trip up to the Galleria that could ever make me think of going back to my old life. I may be tired, and in comfy pants all day, and seriously craving certain foods, but this is my new life, and I love it!

Fast Food Guilt

Yesterday, I ate Sonic. I had a Junior burger and a small tator tots. The rest of the day I felt bad. Not sick, just bad that I made Hunter eat greasy fried food. I heard a quickie news article about why french fries are basically the worst food you can eat. The potato is one of the few foods that just soaks up the grease like a sponge making it one of the worst foods for your heart. Tator tots are basically the same thing.

Seriously, for the rest of the day I felt guilty! This is the first bit of fast food that I have really eaten, mostly because just the smell of the greasiness wafting through my car while driving past the parking lot usually sends me home gagging.

Is this normal? Is this the first of many bits of 'mommy guilt', that I didn't make the best possible choice?

Last but not least..... is fast food all that bad for a 21 week old fetus?
